NHS Dorset

2018-2021 (3 years)

  • Lead the development of a Dorset wide health and social care reporting solution. Built within Azure, the system allows users to see a joined-up version of data from multiple organisations across Dorset and the South-West for the first time.  The progress of the system has received national recognition from NHS England.  The system implementation has been so successful that it was chosen as the location to hold the data to aid the COVID response across Dorset.
  • Migrated ETL processes from SSIS packages to ADF. Replaced rigid SSIS data flows with dynamic copy commands in ADF allowing a variety of different data sets to be loaded by one generic pipeline, with all definitions for the load being handled by metadata.  Made use of the parallel foreach loop to load data in parallel wherever possible.
  • Grew the development team from just myself on the initial proof of concept to a team of seven developers. Mentored junior members of the team and taught development best practice, Visual Studio, git, ADF, and dimensional modelling skills.
  • Implemented Scrum as the development framework. Sold the process to the business and guided them on all things Scrum.
  • Tools/Skills used: Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, ADF, AAS, AAD, Azure Storage, SQL Server 2017, TSQL, SSIS, C#, DAX, Azure DevOps, SSDT, git, Scrum (Product Owner/Scrum Master), Management, Mentoring, Microsoft Teams

Project Title

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.
